...is Burnaby's campus/community radio station.  CJSF is volunteer-run and has over 150 members, including a volunteer Board of Directors; Station Manager; Programming, Spoken Word and Music co-ordinators; and several volunteer department heads.  Members are drawn from the campus of SFU and its surrounding communities. CJSF programming provides music, entertainment, information, issues and viewpoints which may be underrepresented or unavailable through other media.  The station is owned by the Simon Fraser Campus Radio Society, a non-profit organization. Position Description

● The Training Department provides technical and training to new volunteers on proper use of the studios and technical equipment and the responsibilities and requirements of hosting a radio program at CJSF. The Coordinator organizes and facilitates the training workshops, including contacting and scheduling participants.

● The Department's Head reports to the Station Manager and Board of Directors. It will take approximately 10 office hours or more per week to coordinate the department, and there is a requirement that the Department Co-ordinator attend General Meetings and Executive Committee meetings (about 1.5 hours every two weeks) and co-ordinate volunteers to maintain the department. After one year the position may be renewed after a review.

This is a volunteer position. However, a monthly honorarium of $300 is provided to the department co-ordinator. 

Duties and Responsibilities

·         co-ordinating training, in order of priority, scheduling trainings, contacting programmers,

·         leading new programmer training workshops, reviewing demos

·         maintaining a schedule of upcoming training workshops in Better Impact that new volunteers can sign up to

·         referring volunteers back to the Programming Co-ordinator once training is complete, reporting back to the Programming Co-ordinator

·         ensuring all volunteers are trained to comply with CRTC and Broadcasting Act standards as they apply to programming. Note: see the Programming Co-ordinator for details.

·         co-ordinating volunteers to assist in implementing an effective and comprehensive training system

·         assessing whether volunteers need production studio training based on interests and recommending to Production Department.

·         providing copies of a "CJSF Programmers Manual" for volunteers,  overseeing the effectiveness of training system

·         the training coordinator works with the production coordinator and other staff as part of the Training Committee to coordinate advanced training opportunities at the station

What We're Looking For

            -technical radio and audio production skills are critical

            -practical experience with community radio or non-commercial media preferred

            -experience training and co-ordinating volunteers preferred

            -good organizational and facilitation skills

            -previous volunteer/work experience with non-profit agencies preferred

            -excellent interpersonal and communication skills
